Some more information about Raven Rock Standard Poodles:
Hi! My name is Diane Matthews and I LOVE standard poodles! I couldn’t always say that. In fact, I was a self-proclaimed poodle snob. I had absolutely no interest in poodles. Even though I’ve frequently said that I have “poodle head” (curly hair), I had no idea what an amazing breed I resemble.
My passion for standard poodles began in 2010. My family was searching for a new dog. We like big dogs. My daughter had some allergic reactions to certain breeds of dogs so we were looking for a doodle… labradoodle, goldendoodle, schnoodle, etc. We found a breeder that had labradoodles, goldendoodles and standard poodles. After stalking her website for quite a while we went for a visit, then another, and then another. After spending time with her poodles, I realized that if we were looking for the hypoallergenic benefit poodles can offer why don’t we just get a poodle. And there it is… the beginning of a dream… Raven Rock Standard Poodles!
Standard poodles are all-around amazing dogs. They're smart, graceful, trainable, loving, athletic and people-oriented dogs. They can be used for hunting. They can be used for service and support animals. They are great with families. They get along well with other dogs. They are not usually over-eaters. They generally live 12-15 years. They do well as the only dog in the house or one of several pets. They don’t need extensive exercise daily but enjoy long walks and naps on the couch when they get home. They don’t have the usual “doggy” odor some breeds leave behind. Their hair can get matted in between grooms, so frequent brushing is beneficial. And did I mention… they don’t shed!
My primary focus in my breeding program is to provide families with healthy, loving, standard poodle puppies. I health test my parent dogs to rule out genetic concerns that could be relevant to the breed. All of my dogs are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC). I readily provide pedigrees on my dogs and guarantee there has been no in-breeding for a minimum of four generations. This alone can greatly reduce the possibility of genetic health issues. Our dogs are family pets and live in our home. I am right there when puppies are born and cuddle with them daily. They are right in the middle of our busy family life. They are accustomed to normal household sounds, like vacuums and doorbells. When they are big enough they are introduced to some of the other adult house dogs who like to play with puppies. They have begun crate training and using a potty box in preparation for house-breaking when they go to their new homes. It is extremely important to me that my puppies are loved and cared for in their new homes as they are when they’re with me. If, for any reason, one of my puppies needs to find a new home I must be contacted and involved in the rehoming process. One of my greatest worries is that one of my puppies/dogs ends up in a shelter. That is why all of my puppies are microchipped and registered with AKC Reunite (microchip registry) with the contact information for their new families.
